NASIK

Nasik, famous for its vineyards and temples which attract visitors from all over India, has a growing street children’s population. The city is situated about 200 miles east of Mumbai.

The ambitious Nasik project, opened June 2009, is now one of the premier child facilities in the area. The project was executed with the aid of generous grants from CRY UK, Southampton and Christian Cause, London.

The facility is currently operating at full capacity of 48 children and 12 staff. The home contains spacious play areas, six bathrooms, offices, staff and guest quarters and a surrounding garden.

Read the story of two of the Nasik children:
Rupali and Nakusha were born in the transient ‘Pardi’ community. When the girls were still toddlers, their father abandoned the family. The two sisters, aged three and six, soon started to make their living selling flowers near Andheri Station in Mumbai. Through an agency, GSH learned about the young girls’ situation.

Today both girls are studying in Nasik in 2nd and 5th grade.
